Realising Data Governance with Microsoft Purview
DataVirtue delivered an immersive Microsoft Purview Data Governance program for a Federal Government agency, focused on how Purview can be applied as part of a practical enterprise governance operating model — not simply as a data catalogue.
The course connected governance concepts, architecture and hands-on demonstrations across operational systems, Microsoft Fabric and business-facing analytical data.
Participants worked through the end-to-end governance journey: establishing domains and accountability, connecting and scanning the data estate, adding business meaning to technical metadata, curating governed data products, introducing publication workflows, and enabling consumers to discover trusted information and request access through governed processes.
The training also demonstrated how Microsoft Purview can operate alongside Microsoft Fabric, lakehouse architectures, semantic models, Power BI, metadata and lineage as part of a modern enterprise data ecosystem.
The objective was to move beyond implementing a catalogue and demonstrate how Microsoft Purview can help organisations build an operational enterprise data governance capability.
